Discernment

My friend Ben related this to me: everyone has the natural inclination to find a partner and get married. Few, however, have the inclination to pursue the religious life.

As in, because I have that inclination, because I have that willingness and possible desire, I should look into it.

I asked my friend Yvelyne for her opinion. Would I make a good priest? Would I make a good father? She basically said "Yes."

I'm looking to go on a retreat in a few weeks. Hopefully it will clear things up for me.

Wondering what it'd be like to be a priest. To celebrate the mass would be an honor. To be a dad would make me happy. Both are appealing to me. Which is my destiny?

Is anyone else discerning? Do you think I'd be a good fit for the religious life?

I think back to something Curtis Martin and his wife said at the FOCUS conference earlier this year. They said that rather than looking for someone to marry and then running towards them, run towards Christ and then look to see who is running next to you at the same pace. Basically, I agree with Ben. If you think you would seriously consider a vocation as a priest, start there. You will be a better man for it, no matter what the outcome.

That said, whatever vocation you decide to pursue, look for the Lord. If you don't find him, he will find you.

Pray for me, and I for you.
